This session will increase your confidence initiating professional prenatal relationships. The information is grounded in over 70 interviews with birth doulas, but is relevant for many professionals who provide care for families. We will cover topics for prenatal visits, relationships with partners, and an exercise in reflection and cultivating wisdom. Different kinds of prenatal relationships will be covered, from the one hour visit in a volunteer program to a multi-year relationship in a community program. This course covers my own unique methods for visioning, planning, and executing plans to grow your birth business. I use them myself! Let me teach you an organized system for nurturing your vague plans into a carefully drawn map with realistic goals. This course emphasizes HOW to think about your business goals, knowing we define success differently.

This session brings together your joyful, creative playful mind and your analytical, organizational, goal oriented mind.  We will start with the concept of Ikigai or Joyful Purpose and the DTD Marketing Exercise, and then use mind mapping techniques to tap into the creative part of your brain.  Dr. Gilliland will share her original research on the Five Stages of Doula Development and the Five Phases of Doula Communities, helping you to isolate your own key tasks and challenges.

We will spend time visioning your end goal/result, and then mapping steps to get from here to there.  Along the way you will have individual and group feedback about your plans, reflecting back your own talents and affirming the good ideas you already have. You will walk away with a concrete vision, a map, tools, and an organized path of next steps to take in your business.More details...
