"In my experience, most nurses learn a lot of technical information. But what they don't get are the best ways to support the laboring brain in spontaneous oxytocin
release and the cervical sphincter to feel safe enough to dilate and release a baby. When nurses really understand the laboring body, it enlivens and strengthens their practice in supporting all laboring patients. Some past participants have said that the workshop was really about the 'art of nursing'." - Amy Gilliland
In 2020, the Madison Community Doula Project will be up and running. Part of the program will be to offer birth services for people who normally would not be able to afford it. Doulas will be paid, and this may be an opportunity for nursing
students to offer doula services in the Madison area!
"I learned more actual support skills in caring for patients in this workshop than I did in nursing school or my first five years on the job." - RN
participant
"The varied techniques you used to teach along with the thought-provoking videos made me want class to never end."

TOP TEN REASONS
To Take the Health Care Professionals Doula Training
- Getting training on your own shows initiative to get into labor and delivery job positions.
- The workshop teaches hands on caregiving skills in real life patient care situations that you will use every day on the job - no matter what kind of nursing you do.
- You will learn to work in harmony with the laboring brain and body, not simply focusing on the mechanism of cervical dilation to measure progress.
- The listening and communication exercises enrich your personal relationships with loved ones.
- The workshop also focuses on how to get along better with coworkers and the "why" behind long standing policies.
- Spending three days on getting better at something that you love = Me Time.
- The labor support knowledge is invaluable and often isn't available "on the job" or in nursing school courses.
- The strategies that you learn will make a huge difference in the quality of your patient's birth AND your satisfaction in providing that care.
- You will learn how to recognize previously traumatized and other marginalized or vulnerable people and how to best meet their needs.
- You will understand how to be most effective when people are birthing and providing nursing care cross culturally - which happens when people are of different races, ethnicities or social backgrounds.
Trainings Open To Anyone Wanting To Learn In-Depth About Birth
