Newborn Communication Skills - 4 hours, 3 NURSING CE Hours Babies are communicating all the time; adults are just not very skilled at understanding them! The key to parent satisfaction, confidence, and infant mental health is parental sensitivity to their infant’s cues, temperament, and individual communication style. Once parents learn to read their babies, they can
usually lessen infant crying and develop successful approaches to sleep and feeding for their baby.
From Lovers to Parents and Back
Again (Perinatal Sexuality) - 2 hours, 2 NURSING CE Hours All parents expect sexual adjustments during the postpartum period, however few report feeling prepared for the many changes that occur. Patients want sexual information to come from their care providers during the perinatal period, however only 16% receive any. Additionally, research reveals that common birth practices negatively influence sex and sexuality for both men and women for
two years postpartum. Midwives, nurses, physicians, doulas, parenting, lactation and birth educators may all assist to fill this educational gap and provide support for parents. This session reviews research to date and offers concrete suggestions during this life transition to a new identity.
Sexual Anatomy With Dr. Amy - 2 hours, Doula CE hours applied for In this unique session, Dr. Amy uses sexual anatomy to explore pleasure and pain in birthing, pelvic musculature and positioning, sexual differentiation in utero, normal and disordered sexual organ development,
physiologic pushing, and sexual activity as adult play. Utilizing movement, drawing, diagrams, and group activities, these topics come alive for perinatal professionals! For everyone’s comfort, participants are asked to dress in stretchy clothing and use professional language.
This training is for ALL perinatal professionals - nurses, doulas,
physicians, lactation counselors, midwives, birth and parenting educators. Anyone who interacts with postpartum parents can benefit from this knowledge.
