New Blog Series Starting! Other Surprises Just For You!

Published: Wed, 09/13/17

Dear Doulas,

Harvest is upon us in the northern hemisphere and spring is beginning for our friends in the south. The wheel of the year turns again. My assistants and I have been busy making a new website, new graphics, two new books, training curriculums, and some provocative new blog posts. I actually get angry in "Why Don't We Have The Doula Research We Need?", especially when I answer the question in part 2.

After that I'll be writing a series exploring the tension between the doula movement's roots in social justice and the struggle to create a sellable product of doula support in the marketplace. That struggle is central to many of the conflicts between doula organizations, arguments on social media, and disagreements in doula communities across the planet. I've been concentrating on big issues this year to help all of us move forward more powerfully and with grace.

With that in mind, later this week I'm publishing a pretty revealing blog post about my life, my beliefs, and my perspective as a research scientist. It seems necessary to reveal more about where I'm coming from for you to trust my voice on the other topics I'm blogging about.

Look for your opportunity to help just by being your doula self (no matter what role you might play in the world you may still have a doula's heart). Check your email in the next few weeks - you'll be hearing from me.

My September and October trainings are almost full, but there's always a space in the Intro to Childbirth for Professionals Class.  So if you have a friend who's procrastinated, they can still get started on the road to their doula dream.

Announcements!
Leiko Hidaka, a doula in the Dominican Republic and former United Nations Development Program staff member, has translated my post on "What It Means To Be A Professional Birth Doula" into Spanish!

Here is a link to her blog!  http://leikoannette.blogspot.com/2017/09/lo-que-significa-ser-una-doula-de-parto.html
