Reading Newborn Communication

with NURSING continuing education hours!!

Hello Everyone!

For the last nine months I've been working hard to create a new SKILL BUILDING workshop on Newborn Communication. What if newborns were communicating all the time and adults just weren't skilled at reading it? What if instead of assuming their movements and sounds were random, we assumed they actually meant something? What might babies be communicating to us? That's the core of the workshop: to build on what perinatal professionals already know about newborn cues and temperament, develop your observational skills, increase your confidence in what you observe, and help you to talk with parents to interest them in their own child. Sounds like a dream? Not anymore!

Debuting on Saturday August 12 at 8:00 a.m. in Madison, WI, this workshop has been approved as appropriate for nurses for three continuing education hours by the WNA. Every organization accepts WNA nursing CE's.

The evening before, Friday, August 11, I'll be doing the nurses and medical careprovider version of "From Lovers To Parents And Back Again: What Nurses Need To Know About Perinatal Sexuality" from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. It has been approved for two CE's by the Wisconsin Nurses Association. Doulas and any other professionals working with pregnant or postpartum families will get a lot out of this workshop.

On Saturday afternoon, I'll be doing the Communication Skills for Perinatal Professionals, which is appropriate for all people working in the perinatal field, but most significantly for doulas. Everyone who has taken in the last three years has given it excellent marks - and for many people the skills they learn are life changing! It has been approved for four CE's from DONA International, which are accepted by most perinatal organizations with CE requirements for educators and doulas. I hope to see you there!
