Dear Readers,

I live in the northern hemisphere where we only have light for 9 hours a day for much of winter.  The dark time of year is traditionally a time of turning inward, sitting with our hearth fires, and allowing time to reflect. I also start projects – winter is a time for gestation. Wisconsin’s birth rate is highest in September, so this is literal as well as a metaphor!

As a light lover who grew up in California, I’ve had to learn to live in harmony with the seasonal rhythms of my adopted state.  But this is also a doula lesson: to live in harmony with what is, rather than resisting what cannot be changed. It’s more peaceful inside and often offers me important insight.  Learning to sit with circumstances is a lot like sitting with someone in early labor.  Something is brewing but you don’t know what, and you just need to let it be for now.

A three month hiatus from training gave me the opportunity to focus on new materials and new resources to support you in your doula dreams.  You can also look forward to at least one new book, a new website, plus new and updated continuing education seminars being rolled out in the next few months! You can also find several workshops every month through April.

May you also find peace in the dark!
