When Tamara Thompson and I talked last year, she told me she was repeatedly asked to mentor newer Black doulas. But she didn't have a structure and wasn't sure how to make it work. I was designing a curriculum to help doulas be successful and feel fulfilled. Once I started Doulaing The Doula as it's own training organization, I could focus on creating products to support you AFTER the training. NOW, we have a six month support course with your own Coach in Foundations of Doula Practice AND and optional online Certification Process. 

At Doulaing the Doula, we recognize the need for mixed groups and for groups where members share a certain characteristic: such as being a member of a racialized ethnic group that is most negatively affected in our health care system. Tamara Thompson's April group is dedicated to meeting the needs of Black doulas (wherever you live and no matter who you took your training from). Robin Fuehrer and Amanda Echols will be offering Foundations groups later in the year.  

Foundations of Doula Practice is available to ALL doulas! It doesn't matter who you took your training from, how long it's been, or where you live. If you are ready to dedicate yourself to your own success, we are here FOR YOU! 

Groups meet every three weeks for nine meetings, plus you get an hour one on one with Tamara Thompson at a time of your choosing! There's time built in to discuss birth stories or ask for help with clients.

Week 3:  What is my Vision for My Doula Practice?  What is my Purpose?

Week 7: Beginning The Client Relationship
Week 8: Doulaing in Times of Grief and Loss
Week 9: Creating A Team with Medical Staff; Revisit Your Vision

I spent months designing the curriculum! It includes my wisdom from years teaching psychology of human relationship courses. You also receive a copy of the Doula Business Guide Workbook by Patty Brennan; Birth and Attachment by Myrna Martin; and a thirty page Foundations workbook for the course. 

ANYONE who has taken a doula training can take Foundations, even if they weren't trained by Doulaing The Doula! Yes, we want ALL doulas to be successful! So tell your doula friends! 
 

Why Tamara Thompson?

Tamara Thompson has been a doula for eight years, is the mother of seven children and is returning from bereavement leave to spread her wisdom among other doulas! She is a member of the Black Maternal Child Health Alliance, Maroon Calabash in Milwaukee, and is a founder of the Harambee Village Doula Program in Madison. Her doula business is Mother Earth Doula Care, and she has been an informal mentor to many.  Tamara is especially interested in helping Black doulas and Black Student Midwives who have a focus on Reproductive Justice.
