Welcome Doulas!
I'm so looking forward to saying that on Thursday!
As you know the main part of the meeting is for us to listen to each other and hear our perspectives on being a doula right now in Wisconsin. What do you need? What do you aspire to? What are you concerned about? What do you wish was there that isn't?
I am here to organize and to listen and take
notes. Then my hope is that a group of you will decide to contribute to this next wave of activism in Wisconsin. My gift is to plan the meeting, get something started that connects doulas across their groups, jobs, regions, and client focus.
I'm in awe of the legislative and local government accomplishments that has been shaped by the efforts of many
individual doulas and their organizations. Maroon Calabash, Harambee Village, Foundation for Black Women's Wellness, City of Milwaukee BOMB Doula Program, and the Wisconsin Doulas of Color Collective have been instrumental in shaping policy at the state, county, city levels. Organizing and advocacy have been happening for years; something I'm very grateful for and respect fully. I apologize if I missed mentioning a group - let me know and I will include them in a future email.
I'm so looking forward to seeing you. The entire schedule is on the web site so I won't repeat it here.
LeKecia is still on vacation, but you might be hearing from her later in the week to organize volunteers, setting up the room, and all of
that.
Have a great last few days of August!
