The certification requirements are attendance at six births, submitting a birth story, reflection on each birth, and feedback from parents and nurses or midwives observing you. You can attend births by yourself or with another doula. In fact, we recommend you bring one of our Doulaing The Doula certified doulas with you! There's already over thirty in our directory who stand behind our mission, who follow our evidence based standards of practice and code of ethics. 

In addition, we offer one year of small group mentoring with a Certification Coach of your choice. Your coach will work with you to set up your practice, organize your paperwork, and find your first clients.  You aren’t alone in your first year as a doula - we’re with you every step of the way.  You can complete your certification requirements in as little as three months’ time or take up to two years. Trainees are listed in our directory as soon as you are accepted into our program!

To us, certification should be personal, meaningful, and achievable.
